Need to Update Old Machines?

Calmec has managed to apply their new technology to older style armoring machines.  We have heads and chucks that will retrofit onto existing machines; whether or not they are made by others.

Product Summary

Armoring Machines are used for the production of flex pipe conduit and armored cables.  They can produce a wide variety of flat or round armor as large as 4" in diameter, and as small as 1/4" in diameter.    Calmec has produced three size ranges of machines, with the latest version running up to 1200 RPM.  All our machines come with either a single motor/PIV or dual flux vector motor drive system.

Our latest series machine has a head/chuck subassembly that will retrofit onto the shaft end of older competitors machines with all the advantages that a Calmec machine offers, including a highly efficient tooling concept.

Key Features

AC Flux Vector Motor & Drive
On all our latest machines use AC Flux Vector Drive technology, comprising of a flux vector AC motor and drive controller. This replaces  the traditional high maintenance DC motor drives.  All our machines come in either a single or dual motor configuration.  In the dual motor configuration, the high maintenance PIV mechanical variable speed gearbox is also eliminated.  Dual motor technology does not require any gearboxes.

Pneumatic Coil Chucking
To alleviate the operator requirements of having to mechanically fasten and lock the strip coil onto the pay-off chuck, Calmec has devised a pneumatic chucking system which quickly and efficiently secures a coil.  This is standard on our two larger series machines.

Pneumatic Strip Tensioning
In order to create constant and consistent strip tensioning as the strip is pulled from the coil, Calmec has developed pneumatic tensioning to replace the traditional mechanical spring loaded system.

Tooling
Calmec's highly efficient tooling permits easy operator changeover of product sizes, as well as positioning of tooling for a particular size.  On our smallest and fastest machine, this results in a product that runs cooler, with less internal strip friction.

Reduced Maintenance

By incorporating major new design features into our machines, Calmec has eliminated many mechanical wear parts which traditionally require replacing. These improvements decrease downtime and increase productivity, while improving operator conditions and effectiveness.  Our dual motor flux vector AC drive system itself eliminates the high maintenance DC motors, the mechanical PIV gearbox, and all the extra pulleys, belts and shafts that are combined with such a system.

New Technology

In our never ending quest to manufacture better equipment, Calmec looks at all areas of production; from design to fabrication, manufacturing and electrics. Numerous improvements in all areas have been incorporated in our armoring machines so as to keep pace with recent technology.
